The Last 30 Days Before a Big Exam: A Mistake Notebook Plan

With a month left before a big exam, stop adding to your mistake notebook and start shrinking it. In the first week, re-solve every mistake once with the answers covered; in weeks two and three, re-solve only the ones you missed again, mixed with timed past papers; in the final week, keep only the short list that is still wrong.

We wrote this with Korea’s College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT, 수능) in mind, which takes place on 19 November 2026, but the same plan works for any exam a month away: finals, entrance exams, certification tests. What changes in the last month is the job of the notebook: not storing mistakes, but getting the list down to the few that still need work.

In this guide

Week 1 — One pass over everything, then sort

Re-solve every question in your notebook once, answers covered. This is the only time you go through all of it.

Sort the results into three piles: right now (come back next week), wrong because of a concept (study that section, then re-solve), and wrong because of a slip or time (note what to watch for, and practise under a timer).

Weeks 2–3 — Only what is still wrong, plus timed papers

Each week, re-solve only the questions that were wrong or shaky the previous week. A question you get right on two separate days can leave the notebook.

Alongside, sit past or practice papers under the real time limit. Every question you miss on a paper goes into the notebook and joins the following week’s list. This is the only way new questions should enter it in the last month.

Final week — The short list and the habits

By now the list should be short. Re-solve it on two or three days during the week, and read your one-line notes on slips each time.

Do not start new topics. The night before, re-solve the last few and stop early.

What to leave out in the last month

  • Copying new questions out by hand. If capture takes longer than solving, photograph the page instead.
  • Re-solving questions you get right every time.
  • Rewriting the notebook neatly. A tidy notebook is not the goal; a short one is.
  • Collecting questions from sources the exam does not test.

How ReviewNotes runs the last month

Photograph or upload your workbook pages and past papers; the questions go in one by one, with the answers too if the pages have them, and you can mark why you got each one wrong. Solve them as sets with the solution hidden.

In Schedule, make a plan for this exam: choose the notes, the scope (everything, only wrong, hard, or unsolved), the exam date and how much a day. Missed questions come back in Today until you get them right, so the weekly “only what is still wrong” list is built for you. For timed papers, print a set as a PDF without answers, or set yourself an assignment with a time limit.

Questions people ask

When is the 2027 CSAT (수능)?
Thursday 19 November 2026, according to the plan announced by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation in March 2026. Check suneung.re.kr for any change.
Should I keep adding questions to my notebook in the last month?
Only questions you miss on timed past or practice papers. Otherwise the notebook keeps growing at the point where it should be getting shorter.
When can a question leave the notebook?
Our rule of thumb is when you get it right on two separate days with the answer covered. One correct answer can be a lucky one.
